Project Representatives of the Folklore Company of Varnavas visited Latvia as part of the transnational co-design meeting of the European project Digi P.A.T.H. – The Digital Participatory and Accessible Tourism Hub.
The main destination of the visit was the town of Cesvaine, located in the Vidzeme region, approximately 180 kilometres east of Riga. With its remarkable natural environment, historic buildings, local businesses and vibrant cultural activity, Cesvaine provided a characteristic example of how a small area can develop a comprehensive and authentic tourism identity.
During the visit, the representatives of the Folklore Company of Varnavas explored several important cultural and tourist attractions in Latvia, including the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, the National Museum of Latvia, the historic Cesvaine Castle, traditional workshops and local businesses. They also participated in cultural events and guided tours, observing how history, folklore, nature and local production can be combined with digital routes to promote cultural and sustainable tourism.
Drawing on the experience and conclusions gained from the meeting, the Folklore Company of Varnavas will continue contributing to the development of proposals aimed at digitally and culturally promoting Varnavas and the wider area of the Municipality of Marathon.
